Benchmark Holdings PLC (AIM:BMK) said its CleanTreat water purification system won the highest level of recognition from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC).
It was awarded a zero on the ASC’s rating scale, the best possible score.
Benchmark said the news represented “a major milestone” for the business and was an “encouraging endorsement” of its CleanTreat system.
CleanTreat removes medicines from water before safely returning it to the sea.
It also takes out the organic material from treatment, including sea lice, egg strings, fish scales and faecal matter, which is an essential step in combating parasitic resistance to medicines.
Chief executive Trond Williksen said: "Our mission is to drive sustainability in aquaculture and we are delighted to have received the highest recognition possible by the ASC for our CleanTreat system.
“We are proud to help farmers and the wider industry take a responsible approach to medicine use and are excited to play a major role in driving sustainability across the industry."
Benchmark is an aquaculture specialist whose interests span genetics, advanced nutrition and animal health.
