In news that will have most sane people scratching their heads in amazed confusion, a successful YouTuber has traded a US$250,000 electric sports car for a nonfungible token.
NFTs, as they are commonly referred to, provide digital ownership of an image or a video clip.
The most expensive ever was Beeple’s Everydays, a collage that was sold for US$69mln at auctioneer Christies.
In the latest bout of apparent madness Dan Markham, the creator of the What’s Inside channel, which has seven million YouTube subscribers, has swapped his Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Roadster for a single NFT of a “positive porcupine”, according to Coin Telegraph and other outlets.
The NFT was a creation of the VeeFriends project and owned by Eli Burton, the artist behind The Adventures of Starman graphic novel.
