Amazon is adding a range of groceries from Co-op supermarket to its range of food delivery options in the UK, on top of its similar ongoing deal with Morrisons.
Co-op said it has agreed a deal where the US online behemoth's Prime customers will be able to order same-day delivery of Co-op groceries via the Amazon website, with the service being rolled out first around Co-op stores in the Glasgow area.
The pair aim to make the 'Co-op on Amazon' service available across the UK by the end of the year, with Co-op operating more than 2,600 convenience stores across the country as the UK's sixth largest grocer.
Meanwhile, in its interim results last week, Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LSE:MRW) said its 'Morrisons on Amazon' service had expanded to over 60 towns and cities, covering 60% of the British population and accounting for more than 10% of sales in the majority of stores offering the service.
During the first half of the year Morrisons also started supplying a range of food items for all Amazon Fresh UK stores, of which there are currently six, all in London.
Co-op also said a partnership with Starship Technologies for robots deliveries is being extended into five more cities, after first being launched in Milton Keynes in 2018 and Northampton last year.
A further 300 autonomous emissions-free vehicles will be added, taking the fleet to 500 across the UK, with Cambridgeshire next to be added, followed by four unnamed other towns and cities.
Shoppers can choose from over 3,000 grocery items, which are delivered in as little as 20 minutes through the Starship food delivery app.
Co-op also reported financial results for the first half of the year, with sales shrinking 3.2% to £5.2bn in comparison with last year when lockdowns favoured its local convenience stores, with pre-tax profit plunging 38% to £44mln.
