Ten-year infrastructure programme will use 425,000 workers to deliver

The Infrastructure and Projects Authority is launching a new tool, the Project Outcome Profile

Britain will need 425,000 construction workers to deliver the Build Back Better infrastructure programme, the government said today.

An update on the Infrastructure pipeline said £650bn of public and private money will be invested over the next ten years to meet the ambitious targets.

Decisions on infrastructure in future must also find balanced solutions for the natural environment, the built environment and the provision of services.

To help ensure projects meet these targets, the Infrastructure and Projects Authority is launching a new tool, the Project Outcome Profile, which will support project sponsors to identify priority outcomes across these areas, said the report.

A construction playbook will set out more generally what the government wants and come with a level of performance metrics for companies working on projects.

The new pipeline also specifies 170 contracts that will be delivered through Modern Methods of Construction or MMC.

They are worth between £15.4bn and £22.4bn and are to incorporate the best use of MMC.
