Carnival PLC (LSE:CCL) said its Holland America Line and Seabourn brands cancelled more cruises as the company pushed back restart dates to next spring.
Holland America sails from January to mid-March and early May for its Noordam, Oosterdam and Westerdam ships in Asia, the antipodes, South America and Antarctica.
Cruises on the Seabourn Quest, the third of five ships in the brand that is still not running, from January to 10 May have also been cancelled.
Seabourn Quest will resume sailing in the Mediterranean on May 10, spending its summer 2022 season outside the Venice lagoon (where the Italian government earlier this year banned ships over a certain size or weight or surpassing specific pollution levels from plying the major Giudecca Canal sea artery or cruising the waters near St Mark’s Square).
Seabourn Quest “will visit the historic countries in the Adriatic and Ionian seas through mid-July before turning west and north to explore coastal destinations across Spain, Portugal, France and the United Kingdom”.
Last month, Carnival cancelled the 145-day world cruise on Seabourn Sojourn that was originally scheduled to depart on January 11 from Los Angeles, shelving it until 2024.
Meanwhile, Carnival said Holland America Line will have its complete fleet back to cruising, with the restart of operations for its Noordam, Oosterdam and Westerdam on 14 March, 1 May and 8 May respectively, with the Volendam and Zaandam also slated to return in May and the other six of the line’s ships having returned to service or on course to do so in coming months.
“We’ve been working intensely to get all of our ships back into service,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. “Our progressive rollout plan allows us to be back in full service over the next several months, and we look forward to welcoming guests on all 11 ships cruising in different regions around the world.”
Guests and travel advisors on cancelled Seaborn voyages will receive specific information applicable to their booking, the FTSE 250- and S&P 500-listed company said. Affected Holland America holidaymakers may be moved to later cruises, though not guests which booked charter sailings.
Earlier this month Carnival Cruise Line ships moved back five ships operating out of US homeports back to 2022, and cancelled cruises for two non-US ships up to and including 16 December.
Last month the company also cancelled its 2021-2022 South America and Antarctica program, and its 2022 world cruise along with two December 2021 Caribbean cruises for two ships under its Princess Cruises brand.
