General mining & base metals

Galena Mining poised to increase base and precious metals exploration at Jillawarra

Four high-priority targets will be the primary focus of the exploration work for the remainder of 2021, all within the Woodlands Complex area.

Galena Mining Ltd (ASX:G1A, FRA:GM6) has identified several priority targets to begin drilling for base and precious metals in the December quarter of 2021 at its Jillawarra project in the highly prospective Edmund Sedimentary Basin and west of the company’s Abra Lead-Silver Project in Western Australia.

The company also plans to complete further airborne electromagnetic work which will increase the coverage area to about 50% including all of the priority areas.

Following a detailed review of the Jillawarra Project, Galena has identified seven priority targets from 25 prospective targets and plans to complete up to 3 kilometres of drilling and detailed electromagnetic targeting on four of those targets.

“Brand-new mineral province”

Galena managing director Tony James said: “A detailed geological review of the entire Jillawarra tenement package has occurred following the acquisition of the Copper Chert area last year.

“Applying our greater understanding and knowledge we obtained from our Abra drilling program in 2020 we have been able to clearly identify some high priority targets at Jillawarra.

“Work on the ground will continue on four of these targets in the Woodlands Complex area this year and we have another three high priority targets that we also want to get busy on.

“This is an exciting period for the Edmund Sedimentary basin as Abra’s development provides a foundation for the opening up of this brand-new mineral province in Western Australia.

“Along with Abra, the 100%-owned Jillawarra ground will be a significant chapter in the development of this region.”

Prospective Quartzite Well fault zone

Galena owns 100% of the Jillawarra Project which covers 508 square kilometres of prospective Edmund Basin sediments across 60 kilometres of contiguous strike immediately to the west of the Abra Base Metals Project.

The tenements cover the prospective Quartzite Well fault zone that contains the Abra deposit and the regional-scale Woodlands Complex.

Importantly, four targets including JHP31, 46-40, TP will be the primary focus of the exploration work for the remainder of 2021, all within the Woodlands Complex area.

The Woodlands Complex is a regional-scale coincidental magnetic and gravity anomaly in the western end of the Jillawarra Project area.

Forward plan

Galena’s continuous geological work during the 2020 drilling program has continued to improve the understanding and geological confidence associated with Abra and surrounding exploration targets including those identified in the Jillawarra Project area.

Several new prospective targets for base and precious metals mineralisation have been identified.

Galena has secured a diamond drill rig to drill-test some of the high-priority targets associated with the Woodlands Complex within the Jillawarra Project during the last quarter of 2021.

The company is presently planning the drilling program and has begun the required heritage surveys prior to the final commitment of drill collar locations.
