Weir Group appoints first female chair in 150-year history

Barbara Jeremiah has been Weir's senior independent director since 2020, having joined the board in 2017

The Weir Group PLC (LSE:WEIR) has appointed its first female chair in the Scottish engineer's 150-year history.

Barbara Jeremiah, who has been Weir's senior independent director since 2020, having joined the board in 2017, will succeed Charles Berry after the 2022 AGM when he retires on completion of his nine-year term.

Berry said: "It is an incredible privilege to serve as chairman of Weir, a business where my father spent much of his career and a group that I have had a life-long affection for.

“I am also delighted that Barbara will be succeeding me. She is an excellent choice for chair,” he added.

Jeremiah, who spent over 30 years at Alcoa (NYSE:AA) Inc prior to joining Weir as a non-exec, added it was also a privilege for her to be appointed chair-designate as Weir celebrates its 150th anniversary.
