Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) chief executive Tim Cook has trousered millions of dollars after selling a chunk of shares awarded as part of a long-term incentive plan.
A filing with the US Securities and Exchange (SEC) reveals Cook sold shares worth more than US$750mln.
The share award was triggered by the stratospheric share price performance of Apple under Cook’s stewardship after he took over from the company’s co-founder, the late Steve Jobs.
Apple’s share price has risen by around 1,200% since Cook succeeded Jobs 10 years ago.
Earlier this week, an SEC filing revealed Cook had donated close to US$10mln of shares to an unspecified charity. Cook has previously said he would donate his entire fortune before he dies; he is currently worth an estimated US$1.5bn, according to the Bloomberg news agency.
