Deliveroo PLC (LSE:ROO) could be delivering Lemsip to the doorstep following a tie-up with chemist chain Boots, according to reports doing the rounds.
The pair will collaborate on a pilot programme that will initially connect 14 mainly city centre stores.
For the takeaway group, known for its army of turquoise clad cycle and moped riders, it marks a departure from the normal diet of Chinese and pizzas.
According to the Guardian, the deal will mean customers will be able to order medicines and painkillers for milder ailments such as coughs, colds and hay fever for home delivery.
Makeup, toiletries, baby products and snacks will also be among the 400 products initially available from US-owned Boots, which is Britain’s largest pharmacy chain, the paper added.
It will be interesting to see whether the tie-up will put a pep in the step of the Deliveroo share price, which on Monday only just struggled back above the float price – five months after its debut.
The company, founded by former investment banker Will Shu, got off to a ropey start as investors fretted over the company’s governance structure and the rights of its bikers, who are treated as independent contractors.
From a late April closing low of 233p, the shares at the end of business Monday were 390.03p, or 0.03p above the price at which they made their debut.
