St George Mining has drilling underway at Mt Alexander

The company’s drill program will test the continuity of known high-grade mineralisation ahead of potential resource estimation.

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ) has resumed drilling of nickel-copper sulphide targets at its flagship high-grade Mt Alexander Project in the north-eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.

The company’s recent reverse circulation (RC) drill program is targeting several nickel-copper and sulphide targets which includes the Carnac Prospect where a linear magnetic trend with coincident nickel-copper soil anomalism may represent a mineralised intrusive unit similar to the Cathedrals Belt.

St George’s latest aeromagnetic survey at the Bulls-Eye prospect has identified a strong magnetic anomaly that has the potential for a late-stage intrusive unit.

Promisingly, a historical nickel-copper anomaly at E29/962 prospect is coincident with ultramafic rocks that are already confirmed by the previous drilling.

St George executive chairman John Prineas said: “We have resumed drilling at Mt Alexander with an exciting pipeline of nickel-copper sulphide targets.

“These early-stage targets have been generated by our ongoing exploration of the 100% St George owned tenements at Mt Alexander.

“These targets offer an excellent opportunity to expand the footprint of mineralisation at Mt Alexander with a new discovery.”

High-grade nickel-copper sulphide

Drilling by St George has confirmed that high-grade nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation at the Cathedrals prospect commences from 30 metres below surface and has formed in two deposits.

Initially, 20 high-priority holes will be completed with an average depth of 80 metres to confirm the continuity of the mineralisation in the upper deposit.

Additional infill drilling will be designed once results from the high-priority holes are reviewed with approval for up to 82 infill holes in the existing program of works for Cathedrals.

Combination of high-grade nickel, copper, cobalt and PGE metals

Prineas added: “Infill drilling will also be undertaken at the Cathedrals Prospect, where high-grade nickel-copper sulphides have been intersected at shallow depths across a strike length of more than 200m.

“The high-grade mineralisation at Cathedrals – typified by intercepts of massive nickel-copper sulphides like MAD056 – highlights how special Mt Alexander is.

“The combination of high-grade nickel, copper, cobalt and platinum group metals is simply not seen anywhere else in Australia.

“With nickel prices powering ahead on rising battery metal demand, Mt Alexander is well-positioned to attract attention from investors looking for proven high-grade nickel sulphide discoveries.”
