Seeing Machines encouraged by progress of SAFE and RIDE Acts in the US senate

Driver monitoring systems can detect whether a driver is driving while distracted; it can even indicate whether the driver is driving under the influence of alcohol

Seeing Machines Ltd (AIM:SEE, OTC:SEEMF, FRA:M2Z) (AIM:SEE) has drawn investors' attention to a new bipartisan infrastructure agreement passed by the US Senate relating to driver monitoring systems (DMS).

The London-listed driver monitoring system specialist said the agreement included the SAFE Act, which would require the installation of a DMS in vehicles to detect distracted driving, plus the RIDE Act, which would require new cars to use advanced drunk driving technology to stop impaired driving.

“DMS is on the road today in systems like General Motor's Super Cruise and can tell whether the driver is engaged in the driving task or is distracted," said Seeing Machines’ chief executive officer, Paul McGlone.

"If the driver is distracted, driver monitoring systems have the ability to warn the driver and save lives," he added.

The safety provisions would require the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) to carefully research DMS systems and begin the rulemaking process to regulate this technology.

"We look forward to continuing to work with the U.S. Congress and NHTSA to ensure these technologies are available to all drivers and save the maximum number of lives," McGlone said.
