Shanta Gold reports further high-grade drilling results from its West Kenya gold project

"We believe this asset has the potential to be a high-quality gold development project that could be transformational for Shanta," said chief executive Eric Zurrin

Shanta Gold Ltd (AIM:SHG) announced further high-grade drilling results from its West Kenya gold project, with visible gold identified in two intersections across 13 holes drilled in the second phase of its drilling programme.

One of the drill holes intersected 4 metres at 706 grammes a tonne (g/t), including 0.5 metres at an exceptional 5,643g/t, although details of the high-grade intersections were not disclosed.

The drilling was conducted in May and June at the Isulu and Bushiangala deposits and follows on from the positive results of the Phase 1 drilling programme which the company said were some of the best drilling results it had ever seen.

Other highlights from the Phase 2 drilling campaign include 8.5 metres at 4.0 grammes a tonne (g/t) gold and 1.0 metre at 13.9g/t gold from the Bushiangala deposit and 2.8 metres at 12.8g/t gold, including 0.5 metres at 60.2g/t gold, from the Isulu deposit.

"Building on from the success of Phase 1 drilling at West Kenya, we are extremely encouraged by today's reported intersections which are the first results from this second phase,” said chief executive Eric Zurrin. “We believe this asset has the potential to be a high-quality gold development project that could be transformational for Shanta and our shareholders as well as Kenya and its communities.”

A resource update, focused on about 10% of the total NI43-101 inferred resource estimate of 1.2 million ounces, is expected to be released by early September.

“We continue to be excited by the prospects of the project and remain on track to complete 35-40% of total planned drilling at West Kenya by the end of 2021 with visible gold identified already,” said Zurrin.
