Buru Energy Limited has completed drilling operations on the Currajong 1 well onshore Canning Basin in the southwest of the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
The company is now relocating the Ensign 963 drilling rig to the Rafael 1 site with drilling operations there expected to begin in two to three weeks.
Buru is the largest acreage holder in the Canning Basin and is the operator of all of its exploration permits.
Currajong 1
Buru spudded the Currajong 1 well, the first well in the company’s 2021 Canning Basin exploration campaign, on July 1.
The 7-inch (178mm) casing string has now been installed to a measured depth of 2,350 metres and successfully pressure tested.
This was the last drilling operation on the well and the Ensign 963 drilling rig was released from the well at 12:00 on Sunday August 8, 2021.
Preparations for testing of the Currajong 1 well will now be progressed including required joint venture and regulatory approvals.
Ungani 8 drilling to follow Rafael 1
All joint venture approvals for the drilling of the Ungani 8 well have now been received with the well to be drilled after the Rafael 1 well.
Details on the well design and objectives will be provided in due course.
Buru has a 50% interest at the Ungani Oilfield situated about 90 kilometres east of Broome which includes six production wells and associated production facilities.
The company completed the latest Ungani crude oil lifting and sale last month with Buru receiving more than $3 million cash.
