Japan Gold expands Togi project following high grade results from Barrick alliance work program

The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has accepted 51 new prospecting rights applications for the Togi project in Honshu

Japan Gold (TSX-V:JG) Corp said that the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has accepted 51 new prospecting rights applications covering around 145 square kilometers (km) around its Barrick alliance Togi project, on the Noto Peninsula of Honshu.

The Vancouver-headquartered group said that in November 2020, the Barrick alliance collected 412 rock samples and 88 bulk leach extractable gold (BLEG) samples across the Togi project.

“Systematic stream sediment sampling defined a continuous, 8 km long corridor of gold anomalous drainages within the Togi project,” said the company.

Rock samples collected during the BLEG sampling program from vein outcrops, float, and historic mine waste-dumps also provided encouraging results:

  • From the 412 rock samples collected, 235 samples assayed greater than 0.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, with 91 assaying greater than 5 g/t gold;
  • Sixty-four of the samples assayed between 5 and 20 g/t gold; and
  • Twenty-seven of the samples assayed greater than 20 g/t gold, with a peak value of 79.7 g/t gold.

Following the promising results, the Barrick alliance decided to apply for additional ground covering the same geological formations which host the gold mineralisation within the Togi project.

“These new additions to the Togi project are part of the Barrick alliances strategy to continue to expand the portfolio based on the identification of key prospectivity indicators throughout the gold provinces of Japan,” said the company.

The Togi property spans almost 4,000 hectares and shows a similar geological setting to the northeast of Sado Island, 16 kilometre (km) along strike. It hosted Japan's second-largest gold mine - the Sado Mine - with production of 2.5 million ounces of gold and 74 million ounces of silver prior to its closure in 1974.

Gold mineralization was discovered in the Togi area in 1896 and historic records from the Togi Goldfield report seven separate areas of workings along a 7 km trend which produced a combined 48,000 ounces of gold and 180,000 ounces of silver between 1910-21.

In the southwest of the goldfield, historic mine workings on the Urugami deposits cover over 30 small veins and stockwork zones within a 4 square km zone. Here, the Togo mine, the largest within the Urugami area, produced over 18,000 ounces of gold and 83,000 ounces of silver from stockwork vein and breccia zones.

The Canadian mineral exploration company is focused solely on gold exploration across Hokkaido, Honshu, and Kyushu in Japan.
