It has been a cracking year for flotations - initial public offerings - listings - whatever you call them, not just in terms of their number but their share price performance.
There have been 88 flotations (including a few reverse takeovers of cash shells) this year and as at last Thursday's close, 56 of them were in credit whereas just 32 were underwater.
Seven stocks have doubled in price or more compared to just two stocks that have halved.
We'd love to tell you that there is some sort of rhyme or reason behind those that have done well and those that have not but in reality, each stock needs to be taken on a case by case basis, with much poring over the prospectus documents.
For instance, who would have thought that this year was a good one for the operator of a chain of bars to float? Yet Nightcap PLC (AIM:NGHT) has doubled in share price since listing in mid-January.
Featuring in adverts on TV and the name recognition that comes with it does not seem to have been a help if the experiences of Parsley Box, Deliveroo, Wickes and MusicMagpie are anything to go by. Dr Martens, meanwhile, seems to be the exception that proves the rule.
