Challenger Energy Group PLC - Challenger Energy advances Saffron-2 to testing phase

Challenger Energy Group PLC (AIM:CEG) told investors the Saffron-2 well in Trinidad and Tobago is now on clean-up ahead of well testing.

The Caribbean and Atlantic margin focused oil and gas company said following the demobilisation of the drill rig some 130 feet of potential reservoir sands in the Lower Cruse sections of the well were perforated. Drilling materials and fluids are being recovered from the well, and that’s expected to continue for several days.

Once fully ‘cleaned up’ the company will begin to collect data to ascertain pressures, oil and fluid types, and production rates from the Lower Cruse zones, a statement read.

"The objective of the Safffron-2 well is to understand the production potential from the various reservoir units identified by both the Saffron-1 and Saffron-2 wells, starting with the Lower Cruse intervals,” said chief executive Eytan Uliel. “I am pleased to advise the first stage of production testing at the Saffron-2 well has commenced, with well bore clean-up operations underway.”

“We will provide a further update once we have an indication of production potential."

After the Lower Cruse zones have been tested it is planned that some 200 feet of net pay in Middle Cruse zone will be perforated and tested.
