Glenfiddich, one of Scotland’s most famous whisky makers, has said it will use production waste from its distillery in Dufftown, Moray to make a low-carbon fuel that will be used to power its lorries.
The company said it has installed fuelling stations and adapted its lorries for the low carbon fuel, the technology for which was developed by Glenfiddich’s parent company, the distiller William Grant & Sons.
The biogas reportedly reduces carbon dioxide emissions by over 95% compared to diesel and other fossil fuels, while other greenhouse gas emissions will be removed almost entirely from the lorries.
William Grant is also planning to make the technology available to the entire Scottish whisky industry in a move to support decarbonisation in the UK and help achieve the government’s net-zero targets.
