Fireweed Zinc intersects significant mineralization at the Boundary Zone West area of its Macmillan Pass project

Initial holes drilled at Boundary West confirmed the presence of mineralization both along strike and down dip from a 2020 discovery of 4.22% zinc, 0.34% lead and 25.6 grams per ton silver over 76.5 metres

Fireweed Zinc Ltd (TSX-V:FWZ) said it has intersected significant mineralization at the Boundary Zone West target on its Macmillian Pass zinc-lead-silver project in Yukon.

Initial holes drilled at Boundary West confirmed the presence of mineralization both along strike and down dip from a 2020 discovery of 4.22% zinc, 0.34% lead and 25.6 grams per ton (g/t) silver over 76.5 metres, according to Vancouver-based Fireweed.

The company said that the intersections confirmed significant widths of both laminated sphalerite-galena-pyrite-barite mineralization and massive pyrite-sphalerite-galena mineralization, located 75 metres and 210 metres down-dip, respectively.

Fireweed currently has two rigs active on the property, with one at Boundary Zone West and another at the Tom East target. The company has drilled 1,354 metres so far.

“We are excited to continue drilling additional step-out holes to test the potential extent of mineralization in the area,” Fireweed CEO Brandon Macdonald said in a statement. “The drilling at Tom East is both confirming the nature of mineralization and improving our understanding of the geology and structure of that deposit. We’re also pleased with the progress of the geophysical and mapping programs and look forward to defining new targets for future exploration and drill testing.”

Regional exploration

Fireweed also updated investors on the progress of its ongoing exploration program on the wider property. The company is doing ground gravity geophysics to extend the 2020 survey grid to the west along the Fertile Corridor over the Eleven and Kobuk targets, with around 50.5 line-kilometres completed so far.

Additional work includes geological mapping and prospecting around the Boundary Zone and Boundary Zone West targets, with field crews working westwards to the Sol and Oro claims acquired by Fireweed last year.

The 940 square-kilometre Macmillan Pass project is host to the Tom and Jason zinc-lead-silver deposits as well as the Boundary Zone, Tom North Zone and End Zone which have significant zinc-lead-silver mineralization.
