AJ Bell hails pension demand as assets top £70bn

The last three months saw 6% more users quarter-on-quarter

AJ Bell PLC (LSE:AJB) (LON:AJB) said the value of assets held on its wealth management platforms has risen above £70bn for the first time.

The wealth manager added it also has 30% more customers than this time a year ago as its latest quarter continued to see a healthy rate of new sign-ups to its platforms.

The latest three months to end June 2021 saw 6% more users quarter-on-quarter taking total customer numbers to a touch over 380,000.

Net inflows in the quarter were £1.8 bn (2020: £1.2bn) while total assets under administration rose by 8% over the quarter to £70.4bn, with £63bn held on its platform.

Andy Bell, chief executive, said he was delighted that assets under administration had risen above £70bn.

“We are seeing the majority of new customers invest via tax-efficient ISAs and pensions as they take control of their financial future.

"In the advised market, third quarter platform inflows were up 57% compared to the prior year.

“The introduction of simplified pension options is proving particularly popular with advisers as it provides them with different price points and flexible investment options

“Looking further ahead, the structural growth drivers for our sector remain strong and we are well placed to deliver further growth across our platform."

Shares rose 3% to 420p.
