Oncimmune technology used by Cedars-Sinai researchers in breakthrough COVID-19 research

The team found the virus affects men and women differently, which could have an impact on the way second and third-generation vaccines are developed

Researchers at the world-famous Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles have identified “remarkable” sex-specific patterns to SARS-CoV-2 using technology developed by Oncimmune Holdings PLC (LON:ONC).

They used the SeroTag infectious diseases discovery array, part of Oncimmune’s ImmunoINSIGHTS services, to derive their findings, which will be published in a paper entitled 'Paradoxical Sex-Specific Patterns of Autoantibodies Response to SARS-CoV-2 Infection'.

“The paper reveals a remarkable sex-specific prevalence and selectivity of autoantibody responses to SARS-CoV-2,” Oncimmune told investors.

It concludes that further understanding of the “triggered and persistent autoantibody activation among men and women exposed to SARS-CoV-2 will be essential for developing effective interventions against both acute, and chronic immune-mediated sequelae of COVID-19”.
