Union Jack Oil encouraged by early results of West Newton B-1Z testing

Clean-up and testing continues at the the West Newton B-1Z well in Yorkshire

Union Jack Oil PLC (LON:UJO) said initial results from ongoing well testing on the West Newton B-1Z well in Yorkshire are encouraging.

An initial 25 metre interval – of a hydrocarbon column in the Kirkham Abbey formation measuring 62 metres – was perforated in the well and operations have been underway since June 7. Gas and liquids are being recovered to surface and are being analysed.

The company said that the scale of completion fluid inflow into the formation indicates permeability in the system.

"We are encouraged by the indications of permeability of the lower portion of the Kirkham Abbey under test, and the initial recovery of hydrocarbons to surface,” said executive chairman David Bramhill.

"We are continuing with test operations in this zone which, along with the planned testing of additional zones, and the A-2 well, the results of which will be key data inputs into the ultimate development plans of PEDL183."

An additional 19 metre zone in the upper Kirkham Abbey formation has been identified for perforation and testing.

Meanwhile, work continues to clean up the lower portion, along with the ongoing flow testing.
