Technology Minerals Ltd appointed a new independent director to its Recyclus Group battery recycling business.
Jo Dennis has spent over 20 years working in the industrial sector with roles in design, project management, operations, sales, and leadership for companies such as Toyota, Philips, Airbus, JCB, DHL and Ocado.
He is currently managing director of Pyrenergy, a UK energy-from-waste and recycling business.
Technology Minerals chief executive, Alex Stanbury, said: “Recyclus is an important strategic and financial asset for the group and Jo brings considerable expertise and a strong network in the industries that really matter to us.
“He also has many new ideas and insights and is a welcome addition to the company’s board.”
Recyclus owns technology that allows it to recycle both lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries.
The opportunity is a potentially big one with batteries posing a major waste headache and lithium-ion manufacturers for the first time scrambling to use reconstituted material with basic battery metals in short supply.
Recyclus plans to grow from an initial 10,000 tonnes of lead-acid capacity to 60,000 tonnes in five years and to 20,000 tonnes from 5,000 in the lithium-ion space in the same time-scale.
At the moment it is looking at a site in Teesside for the former and Coventry for the latter. TM has raised pre-IPO funding to invest in the plant build-out.
As well as the recycling opportunity, the business has a number of battery metals mining projects at various stages of development that, over time, should allow it to provide an end-to-end solution in this fast-expanding sector.
