FTSE 100 made a bright start as travel stocks revived after a tough week on the Covid-19 front, while the prospect of a weekend heatwave boosted hospitality groups. London’s blue chip index rose 39 to 7,051.

Burberry said like-for-like sales are above pre-pandemic levels again thanks to younger customers and good demand for trench coats and handbags. Sales rose 86% in the 13 weeks to end June and were 1% higher than two years ago.

Shell (LON:RDSB) and ScottishPower are hooking up to jointly develop floating offshore wind farms in the north-east of Scotland. The partnership has submitted multiple proposals for the wind farms as part of Crown Estate Scotland’s ScotWind Leasing plan.

The Bank of England has become addicted to printing money, according to a critical new assessment from a House of Lords committee. The UK central bank has to rein back quantitative easing to head off a surge in inflation that might threaten public finances, added the report.

SigmaRoc (LON:SRC), the buy-and-build construction materials group, is doubling in size with the acquisition of Finnish group Nordkalk. SigmaRoc, which has a market capitalisation of around £250mln, agreed to pay about £402mln for the limestone supplier.

Feedback-PLC (LON:FDBK) has won its first contract with a private business for its Bleepa clinical communications technology. The contract is with the equine arm of the veterinarian group CVS, covering 20 surgeries. No financial details were given.

Pantheon-Resources (LON:PANR) has projected a 50% plus upgrade in the resource at one section of its Talitha project in Alaska. An internal analysis of the SMD-B sequence has led to a new estimate of 2.6bn barrels of oil in place and a P50 resource of 404mln barrels.
