Askari Metals Ltd (ASX:AS2), a newly listed copper and gold exploration company, has engaged Oredrill Australia to complete its inaugural 2,000-metre reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign at Burracoppin Gold Project.
The company’s drill design is in its final stages and is expected to follow up on several historical high-grade drill results at the project in the eastern wheat belt of Western Australia.
In addition, Askari plans to test the mineralisation below a line of artisanal gold workings where sampling has returned assays of up to 71.39 g/t gold.
“Right level of skill and experience”
Askari vice president - exploration and geology Johan Lambrechts said: “This is an important milestone for the company and signifies the commencement of a busy exploration season for Askari.
“We are very pleased to have been able to secure the drilling services of Oredrill, they possess the right level of skill and experience and are familiar with the geological terranes that host our Burracoppin Gold Project.
“We are excited to have our drilling campaign get underway in the next couple of weeks and I personally look forward to sitting on the drill rig.”
Historical high-grade results
Burracoppin is in close proximity to the Edna May Gold Mine owned by Ramelius Resources Ltd (ASX:RMS).
Historical high-grade shallow drilling results at Burracoppin include:
- 18 metres at 5.64 g/t gold from 0 metres;
- 14 metres at 13.7 g/t from 32 metres;
- 9 metres at 2.8 g/t from 0 metres; and
- 2 metres at 9.1 g/t from 18 metres.
Exploration begins shortly at Horry
While Askari is engaged at Burracoppin, it also has the Horry Copper Project, Callawa Copper Project and Mt Maguire Gold and Base Metals Project, all in Western Australia, along with the Springdale Copper-Gold Project in New South Wales.
The company expects to start exploration activities shortly at the Horry Copper Project, which is about 90 kilometres to the southwest of Halls Creek.
The project has seen limited exploration despite being on the southern end of the stratigraphy that hosts the copper deposits of Mt Angelo, owned by Cazaly Resources Ltd (ASX:CAZ), and Koongie Park, owned by Anglo Australian Resources NL (ASX:AAR).
