MGC Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:MXC, LON:MXC) hailed as a “major milestone” the recruitment of its first patient to a phase III trial of its cannabis-derived drug in patients hospitalised with COVID-19.
In all, 252 people will take part in the double-blind, placebo-controlled efficacy and safety evaluation of CimetrA following initial dosing at the Rambam Medical Center in Israel.
Results of the study along with other data supporting its application as an investigational medical product (IMP) will be filed to the European Medicines Agency.
Co-founder and managing director Roby Zomer said: "The commencement of the phase III clinical trial is a milestone achievement for both MGC Pharma and the medicinal cannabis industry.
“Testing CimetrA as an IMP will have great implications for those suffering with COVID-19 and ensure the risk of healthcare systems becoming overwhelmed is minimised."
