Cardiol Therapeutics Inc (TSE:CRDL) (OTCQX:CRTPF) (FRA:CT9) announced it had appointed Dr Guillermo Torre-Amione as the biotechnology company’s new board chair.
Torre-Amione, who has been an independent director of Cardiol since August 2018, is taking over from Dr Eldon Smith, who is retiring from the Board.
The new chair boasts a long career in cardiology, being board certified in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology. He was formerly the chief of the heart failure division and medical director of cardiac transplantation at the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center.

Torre-Amione is a professor of cardiology at The Methodist Hospital Research Institute, Houston, Professor of Medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, New York, and President of TecSalud in Mexico.
He has also spearheaded a number of clinical studies, including an FDA-approved Phase II clinical trial of neurostimulation in patients with advanced heart failure. Torre-Amione’s primary areas of research include heart failure, cardiac transplant, and the role of the immune response in modulating the progression of heart failure.

Elsley also thanked outgoing chair Eldon Smith for his “invaluable” contribution to the company, and wisehd him a “happy and healthy well-earned retirement” on behalf of the company and its board.
