Eclipse Metals Ltd (ASX:EPM) has received approval from the Greenland Government for an initial fieldwork program at the lvittuut Project, which has near-term cryolite, fluorite and rare earth production potential.
This approval will enable Eclipse Metals (ASX:EPM) to assess access, ground conditions and confirmation of geological features at Ivittuut.
The company acquired the Ivittuut project in January 2021 and in May 2021 applied for approval to undertake an initial fieldwork program on exploration licence MEL2007-45, Ivittuut, Greenland.
Approval for the work, which will start from August 1, 2021, has been granted following receipt of formal advice from the Greenland Mineral Licence and Safety Authority.
Moving ahead with plans
Eclipse executive chairman Carl Popal said: “Approval from the Greenland Government is an important step and allows us to move ahead with our plans at Ivittuut, which once hosted the world’s largest known mineable resource of naturally occurring cryolite as well as REE-bearing minerals and a nearby REE-bearing carbonatite formation.
Approved program
Eclipse’s approved program of work at Ivittuut will include field assessment and general inspection and familiarisation by the new field team, sampling of the existing mullock heaps and sampling of geological bulk intrusions.
According to the company, these steps will pave the way for further test-work to facilitate the calculation of a JORC compliant mineral resource estimate and feasibility study for the project.
An initial sampling program will include the collection of representative samples from the Ivittuut mine tailings and low-grade waste dumps and the Gronnedal-Ika carbonatite.
The project area hosts the historic Ivittuut cryolite mine and undeveloped mineral resources, including a large REE-bearing carbonatite deposit.
