Fireweed Zinc begins summer drill program at Macmillan Pass targeting zone identified last season

Two diamond drill rigs are currently operational, and will focus on the Boundary Zone

Fireweed Zinc Ltd (CVE:FWZ) has said its 2021 diamond drill program is now underway at the Macmillan Pass zinc, lead and silver project in Canada’s Yukon.

Two diamond drill rigs are currently operational, the company said and they will focus on the Boundary Zone and follow-up drill testing of last season’s Boundary West discovery.

Additionally, holes at Tom East and Jason South will include step-outs from current mineral resources and will allow for the deployment of detectors for borehole muon tomography surveys.

“We are excited to get drills turning again at Boundary Zone and especially at the new Boundary West discovery from late last season,” Brandon Macdonald, CEO said in a statement. “This drill program will allow us to both further test the extent of the main zones of mineralization as well as explore the potential of new targets. The planned drilling will allow us to prove up our new discovery and step-out on known zones which still remain open for expansion.”

In conjunction with the targeted drilling, a geological mapping program along with geophysical surveys will support the evaluation of regional targets, Fireweed said. The surveys will follow up on a 2020 discovery of mineralization hosted in the same age rocks as those of the large Howard’s Pass deposit to the southeast.

According to the company, this new wave of zinc, lead and silver exploration in the district will examine a space that has been previously overlooked and represents significant opportunities for additional discoveries.

Earlier this month, Fireweed Zinc announced the closing of an oversubscribed non-brokered private placement that generated gross proceeds of more than C$4.5 million. It said the capital will be used for the exploration and development at its Macmillan Pass project.
