FTSE in the lead as housebuilders boom, Facebook soars and England football fans head to Wembley

FTSE 100 climbed in early trades led by housebuilders as the UK’s housing market notched up another record month. London’s blue-chip index rose 26 points to 7,099.

House prices in June rose at the fastest pace for seventeen years in June according to the latest survey from building society Nationwide. Prices jumped 13.4% over the year to an average £245,432.

Britain’s businesses, though, are facing a "perfect storm" of staff shortages as the economy reopens, according to the CBI. Workers leaving due to Brexit and Covid-19 has left shortages across the board, according to the employer’s association.

And finally bosses are being have been encouraged to let their staff head off in time to see England’s 5pm showdown with Germany today.
