Kangaroo Island Plantation Timbers Ltd (ASX:KPT) was named Employer of the Year at this month’s Yumbah Kangaroo Island Employment Awards.
In announcing the award, South Australia’s Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni mentioned the company’s commitment to employment diversity, worker support structures, safety systems and training regime.
A ceremony to present prizes in eight categories was held in front of about 90 people at the Kangaroo Island Business Hub, with awards presented by the Minister.
There were 32 nominations for the eight awards and KIPT was nominated by Monique Hayward of Workskil.
KIPT executive director Shauna Black said she was pleased to receive the award on behalf of all the company’s management and board, and she thanked the sponsor Sea Dragon Lodge.
“Most important asset”
“This is an award for all of our staff and the board. In the more than six years I have been with the company, not one staff member has resigned.
“We make special effort to reward and support our employees appropriately. They are our most important asset.”
There are more than 29 FTE positions involved in the company’s forestry business with 19 of these based on the Island.
As the salvage harvest of KIPT’s timber ramps up, the business expects to employ many more over the next few years.
KIPT was also a co-sponsor of the Young Employee of the Year category, won by Emma Wallace of Yumbah.
