Challenger Energy confirms further success in Saffron-2 well

The top and middle sections of the well have so far met expectations, and, drilling it now continuing in the intended lower section of the well.

Challenger Energy Group PLC (LON:CEG) has completed the middle section of the Saffron-2 appraisal well in Trinidad, which has so far confirmed results in line with expectations.

The well is targeting the Middle and Lower Cruse reservoirs with the expectation (based on the Saffron-1 discovery well) that it will be capable of production rates in the range of 200 to 300 barrels of oil per day.

Drilling has so far advanced through the lower section of the Middle Cruse, to a depth of 2,804 feet, and encountered hydrocarbon zones as expected.

“Technically, the results thus far are in-line with the pre-drill expectation, with hydrocarbons now defined in both well sections to-date, as prognosed, and with initial petrophysical analysis of the top two sections of the well indicating formation quality and thickness consistent with Saffron-1,” said chief executive Eytan Uliel.

“We have set ourselves up well for the final stage of drilling, which will tell us what the extent of the resource in the primary Lower Cruse target is, and, pave the way for putting the well on production.”

Challenger noted that the entire middle section of the well has now been cased and cemented, and drilling is underway for the final stage of the Saffron-2 well. In this bottom section of the well the intention is to define the resource potential of the Lower Cruse and production test.
