Legend Mining evolves Mawson geological understanding with further sulphide results

The multi-element data received as part of the assay suite will continue to provide critical data to existing datasets to further improve the company’s understanding of the chonolith driving the mineralisation at Mawson.

Legend Mining Limited (ASX:LEG) has released assay results for three diamond drill holes that continue the evolution of its flagship Mawson nickel-copper-cobalt prospect within the Rockford Project, Fraser Range, Western Australia.

Semi-massive and massive sulphide assay results include 3 metres at 1.04% nickel, 0.61% copper, 0.09% cobalt from 181 metres in hole RKDD043, and massive and semi-massive sulphide assay results include 1.7 metres at 1.48% nickel, 1.12% copper, 0.10% cobalt from 456.4 metres in hole RKDD044.

The textures of the sulphides across these zones indicate remobilisation of sulphide, suggesting the drill hole has not intersected the primary sulphide source.

Further expansion drilling is planned to follow the mineralised intrusion in the open directions.

Downhole EM (DHTEM) work is also ongoing with holes RKDD053 and RKDD044 both providing target vectors.

“Evolving geological understanding”

Legend managing director Mark Wilson said: “The assays reported in this announcement are broadly in line with our expectations from visual observations of the core at site.

“The key point is the distance between massive sulphide occurrences and the broader mineralised intercepts give us the geological confidence of a fertile mineralised system of significant scale.

“Both the drilling and downhole EM results have continued the evolvement of our geological understanding of the Mawson intrusion.

“This is the objective of the current stage of our systematic ongoing exploration strategy at this prospect.”

Diamond drill hole locations and defined chonolith model projected to surface over aeromagnetics.

DHTEM results from hole RKDD053 confirm the complex nature of the sulphide zone intersected in the drilling and suggest a limited size zone of sulphide lenses striking north-south.

Coupled with geological and structural observations, this sulphide zone is mobile and is not the primary source/accumulation.

DHTEM results from RKDD044 support geological and structural observations that the sulphide zone is limited in size. The conductor orientations, however, support the structural vector, suggesting a prospective target area to the north/north-west of RKDD044.

Mawson future programs

Diamond drilling is continuing with two diamond rigs at Mawson systematically testing across priority areas.

In addition, DHTEM remains ongoing on the completed diamond drill holes to assist follow up drilling.

The company plans to integrate DD, RC, aircore, geochemical and geophysical datasets to evolve the 3D emplacement model of Mawson, with new constrained gravity and magnetic inversions ongoing.
