Dogecoin, the meme-inspired cryptocurrency, is now available to retail trading customers on the Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ:COIN) after opening to the company’s Pro traders earlier this week.
The crypto trading firm made the announcement in a blog post overnight that Dogecoin will now be available to trade on its website as well as its mobile app on iOS and Android.

Coinbase also appears to be attempting to stir interest in the new arrival, saying that anyone who buys or sells US$100 worth of Dogecoin by October 6 will become eligible for a US$1.2mln prize giveaway.
Despite being created as a joke crypto in 2013, the value of Dogecoin has soared around 7,100% so far this year thanks to a boom in crypto trading as well as support from high profile figures including Tesla boss and frequent crypto market mover Elon Musk.
The addition to Coinbase is likely to increase Dogecoin’s reputation as a viable crypto investment, however its arrival on the retail side of the platform appeared to have triggered some selling activity, with the digital currency down 15.6% in the last 24 hours at US$0.36 in early deals on Friday.
