Some new recruits to Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) will no longer be disqualified for testing positive for cannabis in HR drug tests.
It comes as the e-commerce firm announced measures in support of the full legalisation of cannabis at Federal level.
Cannabis will be treated the same as alcohol in US states where the drug laws have changed, Amazon said in a company blog post. It will no longer be included in Amazon’s drug screening program, for positions that are not regulated by the Department of Transportation.
As it does for alcohol, the company said it will continue to carry out ‘impairment checks’ including for cannabis and will test for all drugs and alcohol after any incident.
Amazon, which presently does not sell cannabis products on its online platform, at the same time said it will actively support The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act of 2021, the legislation which aims to legalise cannabis at the federal level, as well as expunge criminal records and drive investment in communities.
