Shield Therapeutics appoints CEO with 'deep knowledge' of the iron deficiency market

Greg Madison will take over on June 1 from Tim Watts, who will remain as an executive director until September 30

Shield Therapeutics PLC (LON:STX) has appointed a new chief executive with “deep knowledge and previous experience in the US iron deficiency marketplace”.

Greg Madison will take over on June 1 from Tim Watts, who will remain as an executive director until September 30.

Maddison’s main job will be to oversee the commercial roll-out of Shield’s anaemia product Feraccru/Accrufer in the US.

His last role was as CEO of Melt Pharmaceuticals, which was developing non-opioid sedation and painkillers that were needle-free.

Before that, Madison led at Keryx biopharmaceuticals' commercial transformation and that of Auryxia, a treatment of hyperphosphatemia and iron deficiency anaemia.

Shield chairman Hans Peter Hasler said: “He brings highly relevant operating experience in growing and leading organisations, as well as deep knowledge in iron deficiency which will be invaluable as we launch and grow Accrufer in the US and extend the commercialisation of Feraccru/Accrufer in other parts of the world.”
