Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) said it intends to resume cruises in the US from July with sailings to Alaska from Seattle.
Following guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line are planning for a one round-trip.
The cruises are available for guests who have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the cruise and have proof of vaccination.
Arnold Donald, Carnival’s chief executive, said: "We are excited to once again serve our guests from the US.
“It is great news for cruising, for travelers ready to again explore the world and for all the communities in Alaska that depend on cruising and have suffered great hardships over the past year."
Donald added that carnival was working with the CDC on the requirements for sailing in the remainder of the US.
Confusion over when cruises can resume has hampered the company’s plans to recover from the impact of Coronavirus.
Just over a week ago, for instance, Carnival said it was cancelling US sailings except out of Florida and Texas, though it had still hoped it would be allowed to sail to Alaska.
The P&O owner has racked up billions in losses during the pandemic and last quarter revealed a deficit of US$2bn though it ended the period with cash of US$11.5bn and said its rate of cash burn had slowed.
In its statement today, Carnival said Princess Cruises will resume operations in Alaska starting July 25 through September 26, with seven-day cruises onboard Majestic Princess.
Holland America Line will resume its cruise operations to Alaska with seven-day itineraries aboard Nieuw Amsterdam departing July 24, with 11 Saturday departures that will operate through October 2.
Carnival Cruise Line has already opened Alaska sailings departing from Seattle beginning July 27, with weekly departures through September 14 aboard Carnival Miracle.
The company is currently sailing with two of its brands in Europe – AIDA Cruises and Costa Cruises.
Eight of Carnival's nine cruise line brands have now announced plans to resume guest operations this summer.
