Exro Technologies successfully pilots battery control system in operating second life environment

It said the pilot validates the ability of its battery control system to optimize batteries for efficient second life operations

Exro Technologies Inc (CVE:EXRO) (OTCQB:EXROF) (FRA:1O2) said it has successfully completed a trial of its battery control system (BCS) in an operating second life energy storage environment.

The clean technology company said the BCS pilot was tested in a 25 kilowatt (kw) 150 kilowatt-hour (kWh) energy storage system (ESS) with aftermarket battery cells, multiple inverters, and a grid level simulator. It added that the ESS balanced all battery cells operating with different states of charge successfully at full depth of discharge, enabling the utilization of second-life battery applications.

Exro said the pilot validates the BCS’s ability to optimize batteries for efficient second life operations.

The company said it will now move forward to validate the BCS in a grid-connected 250kW 1.5MWh ESS by the end of 2021 and define performance metrics for state of health and extending battery life.

Exro added that it is also building the BCS platform with the intent to launch the commercialization of an Exro-powered ESS in 2022.

"This is a major step forward for us in delivering a superior and more cost-effective battery energy storage system to market," said Anthony Anello, president of Exro’s battery division.

"The BCS will have the potential to set new industry standards in safety, performance, and costs for energy storage solutions," he added.
