Hollywood Bowl expects customers to flood back when it reopens today

The bowling alley owner has been refurbishing outlets while they were shut

Hollywood Bowl PLC (LON:BOWL) said it expected a rush of customers when it reopens its doors again today.

Stephen Burns, chief executive, said: "We are excited to be reopening and welcoming our customers and team members back from today.

"The considerable demand we saw from customers when we reopened after the first lockdown and the strength of our pre-bookings for May gives us confidence that we can recover to pre-pandemic performance levels as families flock back for fun, celebrations and affordable activities."

The bowling alley owner has been refurbishing outlets while they were shut during the lockdown and said all now have lane dividers installed in all sites to enable customers to stay separate.

The leisure group added it had also doubled its site expansion target to 14-18 new centres by 2024 using the proceeds from a recent £30mln share issue.

Agreement has been reached for a new Hollywood Bowl in Birmingham and a new Puttstars in Harrow, while sites for three new Bowls and eight Puttstars are under negotiation.

Two refurbishments have been completed in Stevenage and Basildon while three more refits are due to finish this year, the company added.

In the six months to end March 2021 when the group’s centres were largely shut for lockdown, revenues dropped to £12mln from £69.2mln, while the group posted a loss of £14.5mln (£15.2mln profit).
