Surefire Resources NL (ASX:SRN) has hit thick, high-grade gold intersections in results from the first five of 18 holes completed in the current phase of drilling at Yidby Road Gold Prospect.
The prospect is within the company’s Yidby Gold Project in the highly prospective southwest Murchison province of Western Australia.
During the current phase of drilling, the company has completed 18 holes for 2,791 metres, designed to follow-up and extend testing of the previous intersected mineralised zone.
Strong results
The company has received assays from five of these that returned thick intersections and high-grade assays associated with a northerly plunging shoot that appears to be thickening with depth.
High-grade results include:
- 32 metres at 3.68 g/t from 150 metres, including 3 metres at 26.47 g/t from 150 metres and 5 metres at 6.27 g/t from 177 metres;
- 83 metres at 0.64 g/t from 112 metres, including 14 metres at 2.09 g/t from 112 metres, 4 metres at 6.31 g/t from 112 metres and 3 metres at 4.15 g/t from 163 metres;
- 19 metres at 1.28 g/t from 84 metres, including 2 metres at 7.29 g/t from 84 metres and 2 metres at 4.14 g/t from 101 metres; and
- 16 metres at 0.88 g/t from 18 metres, including 9 metres at 1.44 g/t from 20 metres, including 3 metres at 3.25 g/t from 22 metres.
Mineralised lode structures extended
Surefire managing director Vladimir Nikolaenko said: “These exceptional new intersections have extended the mineralised lode structures at depth and along strike to the north, and indicate increasing thickness and high-grades at depth.
“We eagerly await the results of the remaining holes that have also intersected multiple lode structures and indicate that we are on top of a large gold system.
“The next phase of drilling will continue testing along strike and at depth, where this exciting new discovery remains open.”
Yidby Road program
The first phase of the current drilling program at Yidby Road focused on extending a previously intersected zone that produced thick and relatively high-grade intersections.
To date, 18 holes have been completed testing a northwest-southeast trending, east-dipping, mineralised zone across the boundary between sheared ultramafic/mafic rocks and a large felsic porphyry intrusion.
The drilling has extended the mineralised zone at depth and along strike of the previous intersections and remains open in all directions.
Historical aircore drilling intersected mineralisation across a 400-metre zone to the west of the recently intersected zone.
Soil sampling has confirmed this anomalous corridor and indicates that the zone extends at least another 400 metres to the northwest.
This zone corresponds to a major structural corridor identified through interpretation of gravity imagery that continues to the northwest and southeast of the drilled Yidby Road mineralisation and appears to have offset the surrounding ultramafic and mafic rocks.
Further aircore drilling will be planned to test these regional targets.
Yidby Gold Project
The Yidby Gold Project is within the southern portion of the Yalgoo-Singleton Greenstone Belt and to the south is the Extension Hill iron ore mine and Mount Gibson Gold Mine.
The three exploration licences cover 113.77 square kilometres and include three prospects hosting gold mineralisation - Yidby Road, Delaney Well and Cashens Find.
Yidby is in an accessible location within 1-kilometre of the Great Northern Highway, a major arterial road that services the various mining centres and is the state’s main link to the northwest.
