Yandal Resources hits highest primary gold grade to date of 1-metre at 20.68 g/t at Gordons Dam

A total of 22 holes for 2,531 metres were completed in March and drilled at four different directions (azimuths) to test several geological interpretations prior to design of expansion diamond and RC drilling at depth.

Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has hit 1-metre at 20.68 g/t gold from 118 metres, its highest primary gold grade to date at Gordons Dam Prospect within the wider Gordons Gold Project in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region of Western Australia.

The latest multi-directional reverse circulation (RC) drilling program targeted primary gold mineralisation beneath Gordon Dam’s paleochannel discovery, returning encouraging intersections.

High-grade results

The 1-metre intersection was within 2 metres at 10.83 g/t from 118 metres. Other highlights from the Primary Zone are:

  • 2 metres at 11.1 g/t from 73 metres, including 1 metre at 20.41 g/t from 73 metres; and
  • 6 metres at 3.39 g/t from 116 metres, including 1 metre at 9.25 g/t from 119 metres.

Strong intersections were also returned from Gordons Dam Oxide Zone including:

  • 19 metres at 2.86 g/t from 36 metres, including 1-metre at 38.07 g/t from 37 metres;
  • 9 metres at 3.78 g/t from 31 metres, including 1-metre at 23.01 g/t from 32 metres; and
  • 5 metres at 5.85 g/t from 38 metres, including 1-metre at 26.28 g/t from 38 metres.

Exploration to target large extensions

Managing director Lorry Hughes said: “The new high-grade primary mineralisation is interpreted to strike in a NNW-SSE direction sub-parallel to the known porphyry intrusion and has a sub-vertical dip.

“Combining the geological information from the 2020 diamond core drilling program, specifically the orientation of high-grade quartz veins and structures, a high-grade zone can be traced for at least 200 metres in strike length and is open.

“This zone is interpreted to be one of several similarly oriented zones confined within a broader structural zone that is related to a moderately east dipping “main” zone that has been intruded by the porphyry.

“The porphyry contains gold mineralisation with disseminated sulphides and quartz veins and it has displaced gold-bearing quartz veins and structures.

“Exploration will continue to target large extensions of the intrusion as it is believed it has intruded into a major gold-bearing structure.

“Further drilling and data analysis is required to ascertain the main controlling features on the mineralisation and an expert structural study is planned during May/June to aid the definition of high-impact mineralisation targets going forward.”

Follow-up hole

Preparation to complete a follow-up diamond hole to target mineralisation at around 250 metres depth has commenced.

The high-impact diamond drilling to determine the scale of the discovery is planned to begin in the second week of May.

Four-metre composite assay results are pending from the top 28 metres of each hole and from holes that were not completed to planned depth due to adverse drilling conditions.

The sample intervals from 28 metres to the end of each hole were submitted for analyses as a priority and numerous strong intervals were returned.

Next steps

Key exploration activities planned during the June quarter at the Gordons Project include:

  • Release remaining assays from multi-directional RC drilling at the Gordons Dam Main Zone;
  • Commence diamond drilling to test for porphyry related mineralisation down dip of the Main Zone;
  • Receive and release remaining aircore results as well as begin follow-up RC testing at Malone and Gordons Dam South East; and
  • Receive and release RC results from the Star of Gordons prospect.
