Zinc8 Energy Solutions Inc (CSE:ZAIR) (OTCMKTS:MGXRF) (FRA:0E9) has said it is set to test its Zinc-air Energy Storage System (ZESS) to provide backup power at Data Centres.
The company has signed a US$200,000 contract with a leading cloud provider for an 11-month demonstration project, to begin immediately, which will also assess and validate the company's Zinc Air Long-duration Energy Storage technology.

"This agreement represents a step forward in expanding broader and significant new market applications for Zinc8's patented Zinc-air energy storage system," said Zinc9 CEO Ron MacDonald in a statement.
"The continued growth in cloud data centers globally could greatly benefit from our long-duration energy storage technology and support the commitments to a reduced carbon footprint for operators of large-scale data centers."
The company's 10kW/80kWh unit will undergo tests agreed upon by the cloud provider to assess its resilient backup application for use at Data Centres.
If the pilot collaboration is successful, it will validate a low-cost, long-duration (8-to-100-hour), and sustainable energy storage technology which can provide megawatt-scale standby power solutions, the company said.
The performance of the Zinc-air Energy Storage System combined with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) will be compared with the performance of a traditional generator set.
The long-term goal is to remove the generator and transfer switch from the traditional data center backup power plant and configure the UPS with combined DC sources that includes long-duration energy storage from Zinc8.
The company is focused on commercializing its energy storage system (ESS), a modular system designed to deliver power in the range 20kW-50MW with capacity of eight hours of storage duration or more.
With the advantage of rechargeable zinc-air flow battery technology, it can be configured to support a wide range of long-duration applications for microgrids and utilities.
