Entain expands markets where it operates by 30% after acquisitions

The group has completed deals to buy two European operators, Bet.pt and Enlabs AB

Entain PLC (LON:ENT) said it has increased the number of regulated international markets in which it operates by almost a third over the past year, to 27 countries.

The announcement comes after the acquisitions of two European operators, Bet.pt and Enlabs AB, were completed this week.

The sports betting and gaming entertainment group has entered into four new regulated European markets.

Bet.pt will allow entry in the Portuguese market, which is expected to grow by 70% to around €580mln by 2023, while Enlabs is a major operator across the Baltic states.

Looking ahead, the group said it expects to increase further the number of regulated markets in which it operates through a combination of positive regulatory developments in certain jurisdictions, like Canada, and expansion into new countries in regions including Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe.

This could further increase the scale of its operations in fully regulated international markets by the end of the year, Entain added, in line with plans to have all revenue coming from fully regulated markets by 2023.

"We are committed to operating only in countries which are either already fully regulated or in the process of regulating and will continue to look for opportunities to expand our business internationally,” said deputy chief executive and chief financial officer Rob Wood.

Shares were flat at 1,522.5p on Thursday morning.
