Directa Plus granted European patent for use of G+ in golf balls

The graphene specialist said the EU-wide patent will create the basis for developing a new generation of high-performance golf balls aimed at both the professional and recreational markets

Directa Plus PLC (LON:DCTA) said it was granted a European Union-wide patent covering the use of its G+ graphene in golf balls.

The maker of graphene nanoplatelets-based products said the patent covers a family of formulations and compounds containing G+ graphene nanoplatelets for golf ball applications. The move provides the basis for developing a new generation of high-performance golf balls aimed at both the professional and recreational markets, the company claimed/

For professionals, Directa said G+ can be used to enhance the hard-core of golf balls to maximise shot distance, without losing lateral control, while for amateurs a different formulation of G+ can be used to increase distance while at the same time maximising control.

Following the granting of the patent, the company said it will commence a selection process for a partner to commercialise the technology.

"The award of a Europe-wide patent for our G+ technology in golf balls is the first step towards addressing a very large global market. Our technology can deliver material benefits in terms of both distance and control to professional and recreational golfers. We look forward to working with our chosen partner to designing and launching a new generation of high-performance golf balls", Directa Plus founder and chief executive Giulio Cesareo said in a statement.
