Shield Therapeutics welcomes real-world data that points lead drug's potential in inflammatory bowel disease

Ferric maltol was used in patients with both IBD and iron-deficiency anaemia

Shield Therapeutics PLC (LON:STX) welcomed a real-world analysis of ferric maltol (the alternative name for the company’s lead drug Feraccru/Accrufer) in people with iron-deficiency anaemia that have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

An article in BMJ Open Gastroenterology outlined the findings from the study, which found ferric maltol increases haemoglobin and iron indices and is generally well-tolerated in patients with IBD and iron-deficiency anaemia.

“These real-world data confirm the favourable benefit/risk balance findings from randomised control trials,” it added.
