Soma Gold encouraged by exploration drill results at its Colombia assets

At the Cordero-Balvina target, the current round of drilling kicked off in early November last year

Soma Gold Corp (CVE:SOMA) (OTCMKTS:PRSRF) (FRA:8PR1) reported encouraging drill results from its assets in Antioquia, Colombia, which show the potential to expand mineral resources.

At the Cordero-Balvina target, the current round of drilling kicked off in early November last year, and assays for 15 holes, for 4,200 metres (m), or around half the program, were reported on Thursday. The remaining work is expected to be completed by the end of June.

At Cordero-Balvina, drilling confirmed the continuity of the high grade gold at depth, which will be "easily accessible through the new mine portal currently under construction", said Soma, which is producing from its La Ye and Los Mangos mines, at the El Bagre project, which lies 3 kilometers (km) from Cordero-Balvina.

Highlight assays here included 2.30m from 186.10 to 188.40m depth grading 4.05 grams per ton (g/t) gold.

Meanwhile, at the Deep Limon project, which lies 14km to the southwest of the La Ye and Mangos operations, a highlight drill result was 0.6m of 50.4 g/t gold and 0.3m of 23 g/t gold, which confirmed the vein continuity below the deepest level of Limon mine.

At the Alacran-Diamantina project, drilling has hit 5.43 g/t gold over 0.70m, Soma revealed.

The Alacran-Diamantina project sits to the south of the El Limon mine and high-grade gold was historically exploited by small miners' workings.

Soma's team has built a new 3D model integrating old channel samples, mapping and mining data for this under-explored mineralized trend. The planned drilling program of 3,500m is aimed to test the down-dip continuity of the main mineralized trend that was mined in the past by local miners.

"The latest drill results corroborate the geological modelling and the thesis of continuity of the mineralized trend along the Otu Valley fault system," said Javier Cordova, Soma's CEO in a statement.

"The geological modelling, supported by the sampling taken in the historical small miner workings, suggests that vein widths and grades continue over more than 2 km of the company's property.

"This section represents about 15% of the company's mineral rights in the Otu Valley. The team is very encouraged by these results and look forward to continued success as the drilling program continues to build out a picture of the resource."

Soma owns two adjacent mining properties in Antioquia, Colombia with a combined milling capacity of 675 tonnes per day (tpd) and is permitted for 1,400 tpd.
