Vast Resources looks to accelerate mine plan development at Baita Plai

"The next two weeks should be an enormously constructive period for Vast as we physically assemble the key elements responsible for delivering on our revised and upgraded mine plan at Baita Plai," said chief executive Andrew Prelea

Vast Resources PLC (LON:VAST) is looking to speed up the development of a revised mine plan at its Baita Plai polymetallic mine in Romania.

The AIM-listed company said its full executive management team are on site at Baita Plai to accelerate and facilitate the various aspects and workstreams involved in the development of the revised mine plan.

“This synchronised visit has enabled the full team to coordinate on the various technical, financial and commercial aspects of the revised mine plan in anticipation of the delivery of the pre-ordered and previously announced equipment,” Vast Resources said.

The team includes chief executive Andrew Prelea, chief operating officer Craig Harvey, chief financial officer Paul Fletcher, chief commercial officer as well as Marcus Brewster, the recently appointed full-time mine manager of Baita Plai. The previous manager of the mine, South Africa-based Harvey, had been unable to visit Romania recently due to COVID-19 restrictions.

"The next two weeks should be an enormously constructive period for Vast as we physically assemble the key elements responsible for delivering on our revised and upgraded mine plan at Baita Plai," said CEO Prelea.

Last month, the company announced a revised plan for the producing mine which envisaged a move away from traditional labour-intensive mining methods towards more modern mechanised mining.

Baita Plai, located in the Apuseni Mountains of Transylvania, hosts Romania's largest polymetallic mines. It has a JORC compliant reserve and resource report which underpins an initial production life of approximately three to four years with an in-situ total mineral resource of 15,695 tonnes copper equivalent with a further 1.8mln-3mln tonnes exploration target.
