Westmount Energy Ltd (LON:WTE) told investors it is expecting that operations for the next well at the Canje block, offshore Guyana, will start tomorrow.
The company, in a statement, noted an announcement by Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department, that the Stena Carron drillship will begin drilling operations at the Jabillo-1 wellsite on 10 March.
Jabillo will be the second of three exploration wells scheduled for the Exxon-led Canje block this year. It is described as a 1bn barrel prospect, in the Late Cretaceous basin fan system.
Westmount holds a 7.7% shareholding in JHI Associates Inc, which is a minority stakeholder in the project with 17.5% holding. Through a prior transaction with Total, JHI’s share of drilling costs are covered.
Exxon is operator with 35% whilst Total holds 35% and Mid-Atlantic Oil & Gas Inc has a 12.5% stake.
The Jabillo well follows the Bulletwood exploration well which earlier this month confirmed a working hydrocarbon system but not commercial volumes.
