Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has intersected high-grade gold mineralisation at Flinders Park and other prospects within the Ironstone Well Gold Project in Western Australia, demonstrating the potential for large gold discoveries within a more than 20-kilometre-long strike zone.
Best Flinders Park result was 14 metres at 4.39 g/t gold from 45 metres including 1-metre at 42.47 g/t from 52 metres while Quarter Moon prospect returned up to 2 metres at 11.17 g/t from 80 metres.
These results have encouraged the company to begin a high-impact exploration strategy aimed at growing Ironstone’s resource base in proximity to the 268,000-ounce Flushing Meadows deposit.

Managing director Lorry Hughes said: “Our exploration team sees high potential to rapidly expand our resources, the company has significant cash reserves and we are in the process of implementing exploration strategies to reach that goal.
“Yandal’s projects are located close to major deposits and considered underexplored due to the vast majority of historic drilling being too shallow to provide an effective test.”
A total of 11 angled reverse circulation (RC) holes for 927 metres at downhole depths between 60-120 metres were completed at the Flinders Park, Quarter Moon and Oblique prospect during the December quarter of 2020.
Assays have been returned from Flinders Park, Quarter Moon and Oblique prospects all within an 8-kilometre radius of the Flushing Meadows deposit.
High-grade results
Another highlight at Flinders Park was 13 metres at 2.90 g/t from 36 metres, including 1-metre at 21.05 g/t from 36 metres while Quarter Moon also returned 12 metres at 2.05 g/t from 5 metres, including 1-metre at 16.47 g/t from 8 metres.
Yandal is preparing plans to conduct significant drilling along strike and at depth at Flinders Park to explore for the source of the widespread oxide gold and any extensions at depth.
The mineralisation is open in most directions.
At Quarter Moon, a program of 800-metre spaced aircore (AC) lines is planned to extend the 1-kilometre-long strike length of the known mineralisation as the mineralisation is also open in all directions.
Closer spaced RC drilling to depths of about 350 metres will be completed beneath known mineralisation and any new mineralisation discovered along strike.
Oblique results
The Oblique prospect intersected 21 metres at 0.9 g/t gold from 51 metres, including 4 metres at 1.87 g/t from 68 metres.
An additional program of 800-metre spaced AC lines is planned to extend the 1-kilometre-long strike length of the known mineralisation to test areas where historic drilling has been ineffective.
Next steps
Exploration targeting has identified a major trend extending in excess of 20 kilometres northwest along strike from Flinders Park with strong drill intercepts which represent an opportunity for the discovery of new gold deposits.
High-impact drilling has commenced to test multiple large scale exploration targets as part of the company’s planned 100,000-metre program for 2021.
Key exploration activities planned during the March and June quarters include:
- Receive and interpret 1-metre RC assays from Mt McClure and Rosewall and commence follow-up RC programs;
- Begin reconnaissance AC drilling to cover the entire area between Flinders Park and Oblique on 800-metre spaced lines in reconnaissance areas and RC drilling on 240-metre spaced step-out lines from known mineralisation to depths of around 350 metres;
- Start follow-up AC and RC drilling at Sims Find; and
- Complete 20,000 metres combined of AC and RC drilling across the Gordons project and assess results for immediate follow-up drilling.
