BT Group PLC (LON:BT.A) chairman Jan Du Plessis announced he will step down from the FTSE 100 telecoms giant as soon as a replacement is found.
In a statement, the South African said: “BT has made good progress over the last few years.
“We have a refreshed board and much-strengthened senior management team delivering on our strategy to transform the company.
“Above all, our relationship with Ofcom has improved significantly over the last three years and I strongly believe the board's commitment to invest in a full-fibre network is in the long-term interests of all BT's stakeholders."
Du Plessis joined BT as a non-executive in 2017 and took over as chairman in November of that year.
One of Du Plessis’s first major decisions at the telecoms group was a leadership overhaul that saw chief executive Gavin Patterson depart and former Worldpay boss Philip Jansen take over at the start of 2019.
“After 17 years of demanding roles as Chairman of significant FTSE companies, I know the time is now right for me to step down and focus on other interests,” he added.
Philip Jansen said: “I'd like to personally thank Jan for both his service to BT but also his commitment and support to me since I joined.”
