Melkior Resources reports further expansion to drilling at Carscallen gold project, Ontario

It comes after Melkior said last month, that the operator at the property - Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd - had expanded the drill program to 4,500m

Melkior Resources Inc (CVE:MKR) (OTCMKTS:MKRIF) (FRA:MEK1) said the drill program at the Carscallen gold project in Ontario has been expanded once again - this time to 6,600 metres (m).

It comes after Melkior said last month, that the operator at the property - Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd - had expanded the drill program to 4,500m.

As at the end of January, 4,611 meters of drilling have been completed, with drilling still underway, Melkior reported Wednesday.

The drill program is focusing on the 800m long north-westerly trending Zam Zam - Shenkman trend at the property, which has already produced multiple high-grade intercepts.

Intersection highlights from last year's drill programs included 23.5 grams per ton (g/t) gold over 8m, 430m vertically below surface from the south edge of the Shenkman zone.

Other key aims are to test the gold system both for sustained grades at depth and for continuity up-dip and northwest-southeast along strike of previous encouraging drill results.

"Due to increased drilling activity in the region, assay turnaround times have seen significant delays compared to previous programs in the year. We look forward to providing our complete results and next steps for the project in March," noted Melkior in the statement.

Carscallen spans 320 claims over 47 square kilometres (sq km) and lies in the Abitibi Greenstone belt, 25km west of the mining city of Timmins. It has good access and infrastructure.

In September last year, Melkior unveiled a landmark deal with Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TSE:KL) (NYSE:KL) (FRA:NGDA), which sees the major miner advance the project as operator, with the right to earn up to a 75% stake by committing a minimum of C$3 million in the first two years with the potential of C$110 million in work commitments over the next five to ten years.

Junior Melkior wants to make the next major gold discovery in Canada. It boasts a diverse portfolio of gold and base metal projects in major mining camps in Ontario and Quebec.
